M9 is returning with its third and final 2023 instalment - He Mataaho ki Te Ao Whakaari - Whānau, Feeds and Fame - a spotlight on nine of our finest Māori acting talents.

What is possible when you bring nine powerful Māori voices together on the stage over one evening to inspire, empower and impart kōrero Māori on a topic close to our hearts? M9 is a ground-breaking event that is the meeting point between modern-day ‘TED-Talks’ and the age-old practice of oratory that our people are world-renowned for.

M9 is returning with its third and final 2023 instalment - He Mataaho ki Te Ao Whakaari - Whānau, Feeds and Fame - a spotlight on nine of our finest Māori acting talents.

Presented by Matai Smith, this instalment of M9 will see each kiripuaki (actor) share their upbringing and unique journey to success at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Tāmaki Makaurau on November 16th.

The kaikōrero include some of the most well-known and
passionate actors in Aotearoa including:

Te Kohe Tuhaka (Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Porou)
Kura Forrester (Ngāti Porou)
Miriama Smith (Te Arawa)
Ben Mitchell (Tainui, Ngāti Māhanga)
Miriama McDowell (Ngāti Hine)
Ngahuia Piripi (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa)
Awhina-Rose Ashby (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Hine)
Edmund Eramiha (Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tawake Ki Te Wāo Kū, Ngāti Hine)
Julian Arahanga (Ngāti Rangi, Te Āti Haunui-ā-Pāpārangi)

In this edition of M9, the kiripuaki (actors) will unveil their distinctive narratives of growing up
and the unique challenges and opportunities that come with pursuing creativity within their
communities.

Accessible to all people of Aotearoa, M9 celebrates te ao Māori through whakaaturanga,
whakaari, and whakawhiti kōrero - presentation, performance, and conversation. Event organisers janda (TUAWAHINE, Vodafone NZ Music Awards) started M9 with Ria Hall as part of their kaupapa to set up world-class events and spaces that celebrate te ao Māori.
