Malaga – The Journey is a Pacific choreographed musical production developed by world renowned musical director Dr Igelese Ete' from Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts at Massey University in partnership with schools and the Pacific community across the Porirua region.

'Malaga - The Journey' is a choreographed, choral celebration depicting the journey of the people of the Pacific Islands. Music by Igelese Ete (Moana, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring). Co-created by Igelese Ete and Jakki Leota-Mua. The universal narrative reflects our life's journey, that despite the challenges in life, we can and will overcome as one. "We leave our islands in search for our paradise and through the rough seas and the burning sun, we realize that we are one". Pacific Music in various genres - to inspire, Empower and Uplift.

Dr Ete work seeks to move students beyond portraying stereotypes, by creating positive images of young Pacific people and instilling the self-belief that motivation and determination can lead to success in any field. His creative research is focused on the utilization of the Pacific performing arts as a tool of transformation. It will be choreographed by the up and coming choreographer a graduate of Whitireia Performing Arts- Fati Tagata.

Furthermore, the work is a heartfelt tribute to the parents, grandparents, families and ancestors who have undertaken the significant journey across the Pacific through the Moana to Porirua and beyond.

Participating performers:
Conducted by Dr Igelese Ete – the choral performance will be led by the highly acclaimed Chorus Gold Medallist Pacific Connection Choir supported by students from - Porirua College, Aotea College, Viard College, Wellington East Girls College, St Marys Colleg, Kapiti College, Rangikura School and beyond.

Production:

Dr Igelese Ete (Samoan) is a Composer, Musician and educator and is Associate Professor / Dean Pacific at Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts, Massey University.

Mike Bridgeman (Tongan) is a highly experienced Creative Director Curator, Digital Artist, Filmmaker currently teaching at Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts, Massey University.

Fati Tagata (Samoan) Graduate of Whitireia Performing Arts School and was a member of the highly acclaimed Heilani Polynesian Performing Arts dance troupe in Brisbane Australia.
