Malkit Singh, MBE: An England-based Punjabi bhangra singer, Malkit Singh was born in Hussainpur and raised in Nakodar. He relocated to Birmingham in 1984. In recognition of his contributions, he became the first Punjabi singer to receive an MBE from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace.

Malkit Singh is credited as one of the legendary pioneers who brought Punjabi folk out from the fields and onto the world stage. The best-selling Bhangra solo artist in the world, Malkit’s original style and wonderful melodious voice has brought Punjabi culture to worldwide audiences during an incredible career, spanning over 30 years.

Malkit Singh music has also featured in various films, including Monsoon Wedding and Bend it Like Beckham. He has performed with the world's top musical legends including Pandit Ravi Shankar, Trilok Gurtu and A R Rehman.
