Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Farr (NZ) Waipoua
Dvorak Serenade for Winds

Vincent Hardaker Conductor
Julia Cornfield Clarinet

After a wonderful evening held in Te Tuhi’s auditorium in 2022, the MSO is pleased to present another opportunity for our audiences to get up close with our fantastic musicians.

Well-known to many, especially after featuring in the movie Amadeus, Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik ‘A Little Night Music’ for strings is a firm favourite. Yet how many of us have heard all four movements in concert? Played by an ensemble of the MSO’s string ensemble, this will be an absolute treat.

Waipoua the Northland forest, home to the two largest Kauri trees Tāne Mahuta, and Te Matua Ngahere, is the title of this haunting work by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr. Written after a memorable trip to the forest with its healing air and cool, delicate atmosphere, it is also an exploration of the lyrical and emotional capabilities of Farr’s favourite instrument, the clarinet. The MSO welcomes Julia Cornfield, our principal Clarinet to join our string players for this evocative piece.

Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds, features the MSO wind section, with horns, cello and double bass. Reminiscent of rococo era outdoor performances, this piece is written in the ‘Slavonic style’ just prior to his Slavonic dances, with its second movement evoking folksong rhythms.

The MSO is proud to welcome back Vincent Hardaker, who won many new fans among us at our 2022 Scheherazade concert, to conduct and talk to us in this informal setting.

Te Tuhi seating is limited for this concert, book now and join us after the concert, for refreshments and a chance to talk with our musicians!

Seating is general admission only.
Parking is free behind the TeTuhi building via William Roberts Road.
This venue is wheelchair accessible.
