Sydney and Christchurch based tenor saxophonist Michael Gordon returns to Dunedin for an intimate gig at the Dish Cafe with local rhythm players Bill Martin (piano), Andy Lynch (bass) and Carl Woodward (drums). Gordon is a prolific composer and virtuoso saxophone player who studied jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has built a reputation as a band leader with a residency at the legendary Cricketers’ Arms Hotel.

Gordon has released multiple albums of his original music with his octet but for this special gig has curated a selection of jazz standards and original compositions to keep local audiences on their toes. Tunes such as “Tea for Two” and “Limehouse Blues” will get an airing, alongside Gordon originals such as “Swinging out at Pomeroys” and “Engine Room”.

Gordon has been working with club director and pianist Bill Martin for three years and is looking forward to renewing the “Dunedin Connection”. Drummer Carl Woodward will once again show off his fast swinging style and machine like precision in laying out arrangements, while Andy Lynch gets another opportunity to show of his bebop licks on the electric bass.
