Do you want to take a slower look at the natural world around you? Whether it's a beach find, an interesting plant or capturing wildlife on the go? This course will give you some basic painting and drawing skills to capture these observations and discuss some ideas for sketchbook layouts to tell the story.

Description
We will take some time to explore techniques to draw a static object in detail, explore the use of watercolour paint and coloured pencils to add depth to your recording and look at ways to record observations of wildlife quickly. Then we will go into the field to record a story involving, plants, clouds or wildlife. Art meets citizen science.

A list of materials required (approximate cost $60) will be sent out when course numbers are confirmed.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

Sketch a static natural object such as a seed pod or shell with pencil, observing form and surface detail.
Make a study of a flowering plant using coloured pencils.
Make a quick watercolour sketch of a plants and landscape features such as hills and clouds.
Analyse lines and shapes of animals to make quick sketches.
Use layout in your journal to tell the story of your observations.
Note: Courses need a minimum number to go ahead so if we don't have enough enrolments a few days before the start date, we have to cancel. We'll let you know by email so please check yours regularly. If you need to cancel your registration, here are our terms and conditions: "What You Need to Know".

Prerequisites
