Join us to celebrate the cutting edge of contemporary writing in Aotearoa, showcasing artists aged 15-35! All ages are welcome, and all our events are free to attend.

From September 21st - 24th 2023, the country’s brightest literary voices will flock to Ōtepoti Dunedin for the 9th annual New Zealand Young Writers Festival (NZYWF), held in Aotearoa’s own UNESCO City of Literature. Take part in immersive workshops, panel discussions and performances.

This year we’ve curated 17 free events across four days, featuring incredible artists including 2023 Billy T Award winner and comedian, Abby Howells; playwright and Spinoff journalist Sam Brooks; and Robert Lord Writers Cottage Young Writer in Residence, Ruby Macomber (Rotuma, Taveuni, Ngāpuhi). We’re also joined by Rat World Magazine Founder and Editor in Chief, Jennifer Cheuk, as our 2023 Guest Curator. Jennifer brings historically excluded voices - and writing styles - to the forefront, in this year's programme.

There’s truly something for everyone and audiences of all ages are welcome. All our events are free, but spaces our limited so we recommend booking a ticket. Read our programme on our website, and book your favourite events now.

The New Zealand Young Writers Festival is proudly produced by Dunedin Fringe.
