Step right into the heart of NZ Opera and experience a rare behind the scenes look at the magic that unfolds on stage. Our open day offers a unique opportunity to witness the creative process right from the earliest concepts to opening night, showcasing the artistry and talent that brings our productions to life.

The set and costumes

The set and costumes: Take a walk through the Opera Centre where you can peruse costume designs and costume pieces, wigs and set pieces from The Unruly Tourists, Così fan tutte and (m)Orpheus.

The design process

Be transported to the heart of an opera – with a look into the design process for Così fan tutte, as well as a wigs and make up demonstration

Vocal Mastery 11am - 12pm

Enjoy a vocal masterclass led by General Director Brad Cohen

Sing-along session 12pm - 1pm

Join members of the NZ Opera chorus for a session learning and performing a well-known operatic chorus

Whether you’re an operatic aficionado, or taking your very first step into the world of opera, there is something for everyone.

Open Day attendance is free. Parking is available at the 69 St George’s Bay Road complex. Please note there are current roadworks in progress due to the Parnell sinkhole which may cause some delays. St George’s Bay road is open and traffic management will be in place.
