A match made in musical heaven, the Other Futures Big Band and Gallery Orchestra are proud to present their first-ever collaborative project for Fringe Festival 2023.

Prepare yourselves for a fully-fledged studio orchestra made up of the freshest local talent, including an 18-piece big band, chamber orchestra, and two incredible vocalists - Zoe Moon and Wallace Gollan. Audiences will hear highlights from the height of the swing era next to classical hits with a twist and new interpretations of original music from Aotearoa. Prepare to explore a variety of sound worlds on a symphonic scale.

Both ensembles were established in 2022 with the intention to push the boundaries of the showband era big band and the classical symphony orchestra. Other Futures Big Band is a new and ongoing project by Daniel Hayles that looks to honour the big band tradition while platforming music and artists both native to and unexplored within the style. Gallery Orchestra is the latest musical baby of Leah Thomas who established the group for young freelancing classical musicians in the city to refresh what “classical music” can be in Pōneke.

They are here for the fans of jazz and classical, the curious creatives, the explorers, the rule breakers. They celebrate everything with dignity and respect. They swing hard. They groove like their lives depend on it. Meditate with them. From 2022 until the wheels fall off.
