Parisian Swing & Gypsy Jazz like you've never heard it before!!
When we heard this virtuoso performance at Wellington's Hashigo Zake we were spellbound. As was the American man next to us who said "You don't get it this good even in New York." Such is their incredible skill on clarinet and acoustic guitar that we immediately booked the capital's acclaimed duo Oscar Laven and Adrian Jensen to come here. It's finally happening Sunday, July 2nd, at The New Plymouth, Club Gill Street where doors open 3.45pm for a 4.30pm. General $30, NP Club Members $25, any jazz club members $20, students $10.
To add a bit more to this illustrious duo's background. Their show is called "Les Tripes" which means "guts." To quote Oscar "It's what Oscar Lavën and Adrian Jensen value most about performing; that gut feeling you get when the rhythm and melody are just right." They play swing music, based on the 'Hot Club' style made popular by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli in 1940s Paris, which resulted from traditional European Romani traveller musicians putting their own spin on the popular jazz records that were making their way over from America.
