Art, space, and music are coming together at this edition of Tūhura's Planets + Pints night.
Sponsored by our friends at the Otago Brew School, your ticket includes a pint of special edition Tūhura Otago Museum Pale Ale, delicious snacks, and your choice of planetarium film. Bring mates, a date, or fly solo through this after-hours experience.
We’ll be launching the night at 6pm with XYZZY, an immersive show based on a decade of artist Jess Johnson's hand-drawn compositions, which Simon Ward has transformed into an animated web of flesh mandalas, self-replicating architecture, undulating worms, hallucinogenic patterns, and messianic alien deities. You’ll also have the chance to virtually explore Johnson's vivid world in the companion exhibition, Terminus, between 5pm and 6pm.
At 7pm, we'll be screening The Dark Side of the Moon, a show that combines the famous Pink Floyd album of the same name with breathtaking psychedelic visuals and spectacular surround sound.
Finally, join us from dusk till dawn on a live astronomical adventure with a special adults-only Astronomy Adventures show. Marvel at the Aurora Australis, fly to the far side of the Moon, learn what’s special in the heavens above that night, or perhaps travel to the centre of our galaxy… the options are limitless. This is a live presentation, led by one of our fantastic Science Communicators. No two shows are the same, and we welcome audience participation throughout.
This is an 18+ event. Tickets for Planetarium shows are each sold separately. Each ticket includes a beverage and light snacks.
