Release the Music Charitable Trust is hosting a song festival for seven local primary school choirs. Everyone is welcome to attend free of charge, but donations will be collected so Release the Music Charitable Trust can support more students in South Canterbury with their music lessons. The main purpose of Release the Music Charitable Trust is to:
• inspire and help people reach their full potential as musicians.
• encourage participation, training opportunities and excellence in music.
• prioritise music lessons for people facing hardship, specific learning, mental health challenges or other disabilities.
• award scholarships to individuals or groups to assist with music tuition, examinations, competitions, access musical instruments or other materials required to achieve their musical goals.
• support and upskill music teachers in technology or music therapy for the benefit of others within the community.
• assist people living in isolated areas who may not have access to music tuition or performance opportunities.
The participating schools in this year's South Canterbury Song Festival are: Waimataitai Primary School, Timaru Christian School, Fairlie Primary School, Highfield Primary School, Pleasant Point Primary School, St Andrews Primary School and Beaconsfield Primary School.
