Fresh Gallery Ōtara welcomes you to the purpose kato workshop hosted by Ofa Filoialii. This is a free opportunity, so bring your friends and whānau! A kato is a bag made to carry objects and are often given as gifts. Using recycled materials and painting words of encouragement from the bible, participants will be making their own 'purpose kato' to take home. It will be a bag that will physically and spiritually carry things of the past and present into the future.
This modern kato takes inspiration from kato teu, a Tongan gift basket woven from natural materials and filled with gifts to give away. Still using our skilled hands to create a kato with modern tools like a sewing machine and fabric paint.
Please contact us on 09 261 8030 or through email via freshgalleryotara@aklc.govt.nz to book your spot in the workshop. All ages are welcome!
