Quartet Contra

Drummer Thomas Friggens brings together the Quartet Contra to present a collection of original compositions and arrangements. Featuring the mighty talents of Scott Maynard on Bass, Ayrton Foote on Piano, and Michael Costello on trumpet.

Recently moved to Auckland from Wellington, Thomas is a powerful drummer who straddles multiple musical worlds effortlessly. After his study at NZSM, Thomas toured as an integral member of the world-renowned contemporary ensemble Strike Percussion. In recent years, he has collaborated with a surreal sketch circus and some of New Zealand's best poets. Alongside writing and running his own projects, Thomas tours and records regularly with numerous groups including Sea Mouse, Odessa, Bazurka, and Shades of Shakti.
