Rangitoto is a professional production of new play by Geoffrey Clendon. A comedy drama set in the bach community on Rangitoto Island during the Great Depression of the early 1930s. It charts a family’s struggle to hold on to their bach and island way of life during harsh economic times and a changing social environment. Quintessentially an Auckland piece, it’s a poignant comic drama with all the tension and humour arising from a family on their annual summer holiday.
Geoffrey’s research and his lifetime of involvement with the island of Rangitoto imbue the play with a strong, familiar sense of place and community featuring characters audiences will quickly recognize as part of their city’s history and cultural heritage.
