Agnes is existential. She is reflecting on her life, following the death of her little brother, Rūaumoko, at a memorial on the fifth anniversary of his passing. She takes us on a nocturnal journey through the streets of her city and the sinews and synapses of her internal world.
Surfing through themes of displacement, grief, and the healing power of home, ScatterGun: After The Death of Rūaumoko explores the profound connection between the human body and te whenua ūkaipō, In ScatterGun's case, te ngahere ō Te Urewera.
ScatterGun is a solo performance weaving together poetry, the voices of whānau from Tūhoe, movement and sound. Performer Ana Chaya Scotney (Ngai Tūhoe,) embodies Agnes, and the significant others she encounters, on her journey.
Join the creative team, as we bring this joyful and sincere performance to Whakatane, to share with the whanau whose words have both inspired and become a part of this work.
