The “Merry Wives of Windsor” is Shakespeare’s Revenge Comedy. The King’s ex-favourite, Falstaff, rides into the town of Windsor with a small band of followers and a need to make a living. His plot involves seducing two women of the town who are married to rich men, so that he can be a “kept” man. What follows is a hilarious romp as the women get their own back on the lecherous, arrogant and narcissistic knight involving buck-baskets, disguise and a pair of antlers. Of course, being Shakespeare, there is more than one plot going on here, but they segue seamlessly with the help of some fairies.
