This week featuring local saxophonist, Jasmine Lovell-Smith

Saxophonist and composer Jasmine Lovell-Smith brings her quintet and their signature brand of unique modern jazz to the Rogue for a final farewell gig before Jasmine heads off to Mexico. Praised by NZ Musician for her "intriguing intersection of avant-garde art music and chamber jazz," Jasmine's music combines songlike melodies and finely etched counterpoint, inviting spontaneous ensemble interplay from the members of her ensemble. Her career thus far has taken her to New York, Connecticut and Mexico, and she has released two albums with her New York-based quintet 'Towering Poppies.' Jasmine's most recent album release was 'Sanctuary,' a collaborative large ensemble album in collaboration with Jake Baxendale, for which the pair were finalists for the Best Jazz Artist award (2021). For this performance, Jasmine will perform with a quintet of key collaborators from the Wellington scene.
