Liam Kokaʻua (Ngāti Makea Ārera) embarks on a personal journey into understanding the traditional stories of Rarotongaʻs mountains. Guided by interviews with two tumu kōrero (knowledge holders) Pāpā Mike Tavioni and Pāpā Makiuti Tongia, Liam attempts to unravel the encoded knowledge within each story by visiting 5 prominent mountains on the island. The result is a deeper insight into the world of our ʻui tupuna (ancestors), through connecting Rarotongaʻs mountain stories to our creation stories, voyaging traditions, and ancestral foods and lifestyles. Doubling as a language resource, the film is predominantly in the Rarotongan Māori dialect.
