Our people are facing turbulent & challenging times.
The way that our environment is being treated is of great concern and discussions have been ongoing for 50 years. The elders of those times knew that much of the knowledge they had acquired would be needed again to protect our people.
Last year Te Rawenga wānanga were held to both celebrate & share the knowledge that had been retained for these times.
This is the 2nd year of wānanga held by an invited collective of Tai Tokerau tohunga who are skilled in various aspects of tikanga & mātauranga Māori during these important celestial times in Te Ao Māori.
Their knowledge has been accumulated through their dedication & pursuit of the knowledge from the wānanga that they have attended and experienced over their lifetimes.
Kōrero (speeches) and discussions will be facilitated by our tohunga during each wānanga to the gathering hui of various degrees and subjects. Te Rawenga team are most humbled and privileged to provide these wānanga for our people and communities of Taitokerau.
-------------------
There are 6 wānanga & each wānanga is being held & hosted by a different marae & community as it moves around Te Tai Tokerau.
Those places are:
1. Whatuwhiwhi - 17th June
2. Hokianga - 24th June
3. Whangaroa - 1st July
4. Ruapekapeka - Towai - 7th July
--- "National Matariki Day - 14th July"---
5. Taiamai - 21st July
6. Mangakahia - 29th July
We have a kāhui of Tohunga and experienced practitioners from Te Tai Tokerau who have confirmed they will tautoko (support & contribute to) their local wānanga. Some will also travel & tautoko other wānanga as it moves around Tai Tokerau as will key members of our planning team for Te Rawenga.
These wānanga are a fantastic opportunity for people to come along and learn about Māori knowledge systems as they apply to space (locations) & time and will teach participants about the wholistic and multi faceted ways in which that knowledge can be applied in their daily & cyclical life.
-------------------
Registering for a ticket ensures your place at this wānanga only.
Please register separately for other locations/wānanga if you would like to attend those.
Numbers are limited as per the safe capacity of each marae.
Your registration/ticket includes meals & shared sleeping space (cosy on the marae).
Each wānanga is connected with the local hau kainga (home people) of that community.
Every wānanga will begin with a powhiri and uphold the tikanga of the host marae.
