The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace was first performed in 2000 by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, conducted by the composer, Karl Jenkins. It reflects on the passing of ‘the most war-torn and destructive century in human history’ and looks forward in hope to a more peaceful future. The lyrics are drawn from many parts of the world and from diverse religions and cultures, and the music too is cosmopolitan in its inspiration.
For this concert the Tauranga Civic Choir will be joined by Vaughan Chetwynd (organ), Leon Gray (piano), Christine Martin (flute/piccolo), Charlotte Ketel (cello), Jorge Meza Rivera and Mone Isoda (percussion), and Hiro Kobayashi and Josh Crump (trumpets), under the musical direction of Nigel Williams.
Please note that due to the theme of The Armed Man, some of the pieces could be disturbing for young children.
