Love and revolution stir in the streets of Paris as a cyborg wordsmith joins forces with a tongue-tied human to jointly woo the language-loving Roxane. Meanwhile a host of mechanicals plot seeking to free themselves from their human overlords...
The Cyranoid is a contemporary adaptation of the classic French play Cyrano de Bergerac (1897), a story of a love triangle between three star-crossed lovers struggling with society's expectations of them, alongside their own inner prejudices. The Cyranoid explores what it means to be human, what it means to outsource creativity and to how to ‘use our words’ - paralleled within a dystopian (anachronistic) 17th Century France setting.
Victoria University of Wellington Te Herenga Waka presents The Cyranoid as the debut production from theatre company ‘Les Mécaniques’, as part of the THEA 301:Company class, 2023.
Content Forecast: Sexual themes and innuendo, onstage choreographed violence, strong language, flashing strobe lights and haze.
