If there’s one word to describe a VillageMusic winter concert series, it would be “eclectic”. So our next soirée takes us from Nashville, into the thrivin’ an jivin’ world of Auckland’s JAZZ scene and we’re in for yet another listening treat.

If you were fortunate to attend last year’s concert with Jonathan Crayford, you will remember Frank on the sax.

To say that Frank Talbot is a virtuoso player, is almost an understatement. Frank’s list of musical achievements begins early and the list is long, involving serious study and recognition as ‘the top performer’ on a number of occasions. Frank has had a vast and varied performance career, twice touring Eastern Europe with the JM Jazz World Orchestra, performing and recording in the USA with the Rodger Fox Big Band, first clarinet for the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, lead tenor for the Air Force Jazz Orchestra, performing with the New Zealand String Quartet, playing, touring and recording with the Julie Lamb Outfit, playing lead tenor and clarinet (soloist) for the Queen City Big Band, and taking his own quartet on a number of successful tours around New Zealand. At the end of 2022 he released his debut album "Mundane Life Updates" through Rattle Records, and self released a live Organ Trio EP "Speed Rat".

With his ‘Saxtet’ Frank will bring a mixture of larger scale arrangements of his compositions, and fresh takes on some contemporary classics with some of Auckland's top players to join musical forces and allow for freedom to explore improvisatory ideas. Joining Frank for this very special evening will be: Forrest Thorp - Trumpet, Jono Tan - Trombone, Kathleen Tomacruz - Guitar, Rhohil Kishore - Drums and Mostyn Cole - Upright Bass.

Bring friends, bring family, bring your ears and BYO.
