In her latest body of work, Tineke McLean celebrates the often unseen, to be discovered in colour and glory.
Not long after immigrating to New Zealand from The Netherlands in 1981 Tineke started a journey with art creating original applique wall hangings. She exhibited at various places including an Art shop/Gallery in Parnell Auckland and accepted several large commissions for an interior designer and an insurance company. All that stopped at the death of her husband in 1989.
After a long break Tineke started a part time job as a pottery decorator in 1994, the same year in which she married David. It was four years after that when she discovered the magic and temperament of water colours. Saying goodbye to the pots and embarking on yet another medium was exciting and challenging. She participated in art shows and sold well until a friend invited her to join her for a short-term course at Whitcliffe College of Arts and Design in Auckland. The medium was acrylics, and the boldness and new possibilities enticed her to experiment with different techniques and styles. Tineke never looked back and has her own studio at home and creates art that is varied and colourful.
