New Zealand maybe be a "young" country, but we have a history that is rich in stories and tales from our colonial past. Chris Priestley has been steadfastly producing a terrific collection of these stories and creating great songs, using our own colourful and historical cast of characters and tales to inspire the lyrics. And so The UNSUNG HEROES show was born. An eclectic musical celebration of our unique past, all mixed with humour and pathos.
In collaboration with Nigel Gavin (guitar), Cameron Bennett (vocals & dobro), Sonia Wilson (vocals & guitar) and 'thespian' Peter Elliot (narrator & cajon), the UNSUNG HEROES collection of songs has grown and matured along with the show. So it's a real pleasure to welcome this band of ragamuffins back to the VillageMusic stage after 3 years, to hear a selection of new songs and (not so old) favourites. And as a real bonus, Geoffrey Chunn (Split Enz, Citizen Band), will join the crew with his own musical take on the theme, as well as a welcome return of Emily Roughton on violin. This will be an enjoyable soirée for sure. Suggest you book early if you've got a group together...Just sayin.
