New Zealand Pacific Studio is pleased to collaborate with Greytown Upclose and Personal to present Flying Nun artist Vera Ellen in concert at "Up Close and Personal."at Studio 73.
Recipient of New Zealand Pacific Studio's inaugural Singer-Songwriter Residency, Vera Ellen will be playing a solo set sharing fresh material along with hits from her albums "Ideal Home Noise" and "It's Your Birthday". Winner of Best Alternative Artist at the Aotearoa Music Awards and nominee for the 2022 Taite Prize, Vera Ellen signed to the iconic kiwi label Flying Nun three years ago and already has two US and NZ tours under her belt - and she’s only getting started!
This intimate solo show will allow you to get to meet Vera and learn about her musical journey, while shining a light on her skillful and heartfelt songwriting. Grab your ticket and catch a star in the making!
She says"During the pandemic I returned to New Zealand and released 2 EPs independently before being signed to Flying Nun Records. I then released ‘It’s Your Birthday’ which was nominated for the Taite Prize in 2022 and won “Best Alternative Artist” at the AMA’s. Early this year I released Ideal Home Noise which has so far received great support from NZ radio and publications."
Vera's ready to embark on creating her fourth solo album and will be in residence in Greytown to flesh out song ideas, record basic demos, conceptualize what the album might look and sound like.She's looking forward to trying out some of this material with a small audience at this gig.
Vera Ellen has completed two NZ tours, played multiple NZ festivals, and opened for Don McGlashan, Reb Fountain, The Beths, Cate Le Bon, Marlon Williams, and Tiny Ruins. In America, her band completed two full USA tours (one with The Beths), and multiple west-coast runs. This is an exceptional opportunity to be amongst the first to hear her newest material.
