In 2023, Waimate Folk Festival will be held from Friday the 2nd of June to Monday the 5th of June at Gunns Bush Camp, Waimate.
This year the theme for 2023 is '"Ancient History".

Come join us and take your spot as our special guest! Bring an act or a poem prepared as a group or solo and fill a 20-minute slot, or devise something at the festival. If you’re keen, put your name into the hat for the blind date concert, or just enjoy the music from the comfort of the audience.

Waimate Folk Festival sees musicians both experienced and new from Christchurch, Dunedin, and everywhere in between come together for a weekend of music, dance and workshops in beautiful Gunns Bush, Waimate. Featuring the always popular Saturday night barn-dance, and of course the glitz and glam Ancient History themed final dress up dinner and concert on Sunday evening including the highlight acts of the weekend.

Held every King’s Birthday Weekend (to include the first Monday in June); Waimate Folk Festival is a great occasion for performers of all ages and skills, from the beginner to the seasoned professional.

Registration includes three nights accommodation (or camping, for the hardy) and continuous entertainment and workshops from Saturday morning to Sunday evening (and the wee hours of Monday). Day passes are also available at $45 per day or $25 for a half-day (free for children 12 years and under). Cash sales only onsite- no eftpos.

Hopefully meals will be available to purchase for Saturday and Sunday nights - bring cash. There will be raffles too.

First timers are advised to plan their journey and to intend to arrive in daylight (tricky country roads) .Bring warm clothes, hats, hotties and food to cater for yourselves. Bring your knitting, your instruments, your song ideas and chord charts, maybe a log of wood or some newspaper for the fire and expect to hunker down for the weekend. If the weather has been dry - a bush walk may be possible so bring your jacket and boots. The Saturday night final dinner and concert is a dress up affair and many bring extra snacks and nibbles to dress their table.

Re dogs: not everyone is a dog lover. Do not bring your dog into the buildings and keep it on a lead or inside your accommodation if you are outside.

For more info re Gunns Bush Camp check out their website (above)- if you want to arrive earlier or stay later- please arrange it with them directly.
