150 YEARS OF UC
Drawing on artefacts and archives from across the University of Canterbury’s special collections, this exhibition explores the rich traditions, histories, and communities which developed in and around the University from its beginnings on the original town site through to its migration to the Ilam campus.
What began in 1873 as Canterbury College, home to just 87 students, has evolved into a world-class institution whose teachers and students continue to have an impact on the local, national, and international stages. Encounter the people, objects, and ideas that have driven innovation in teaching and research for 150 years and celebrate the unique character of Aotearoa New Zealand’s second-oldest university.
Curated by the UC Teece Museum as part of the UC 150 anniversary celebrations. Entry is free, and all are welcome.
