The Chroma Chamber Choir is proud to stage a world premiere of the Gloria by New Zealand-Hungarian composer and jazz pianist Gabor Tolnay. Nelson-based Tolnay’s Gloria is composed in seven movements and contains a mix of traditional and jazz chords, as well as lyric melodies.

In 2022 a world premiere of his Symphony 2019 in the Auckland Town Hall was lauded in the New Zealand Herald: “In the hands of the full orchestra, its forceful musical expression quickly attracted the audience’s full attention. The composition demonstrated urge, purpose and beauty.”

Faure’s beautiful Requiem will be the centrepiece of this concert. It is one of the most often performed choral works, thanks to its marvellous melodies and lush romantic harmonies.

In the first half, Chroma will also perform the composer’s Cantique de Jean Racine and the well-known hymn Hear my prayer by German composer Felix Mendelssohn.
