Internationally renowned bassist Matt Penman returns to Auckland, and reunites with old friend Hayden Chisholm, along with Kevin Field and Stephen Thomas.
Based in New York since 1995, Matt Penman should need no introduction - he is literally one of the most in-demand bassists in jazz today. An established member of the SFJazz Collective, featuring some of the finest composer/improvisers on the scene, including David Sanchez, Warren Wolf and Miguel Zenon; and the collaborative quartet James Farm with Joshua Redman, Aaron Parks and Eric Harland.
In addition to his main projects, Matt performs regularly in Nils Wogram’s Root 70, and in trio with Aaron Goldberg. Other notable collaborators have included John Scofield, Joe Lovano, Wayne Shorter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Kenny Werner, Dave Douglas, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Guillermo Klein, Rebecca Martin, Nicholas Payton, Fred Hersch and Madeleine Peyroux.
Hayden Chisholm and Matt go waaay back. A superlative altoist now living in Europe, Matt and Hayden were bandmates before they both left for greener pastures. With Unwind, Hayden's semi-regular NZ return visits have become CJC crowd-favourites.
The two old friends are joined by local heavyweights Kevin Field and Stephen Thomas for what will be a stunning night of contemporary jazz of the highest calibre!
