Eid Al Fitr is a hugely important festival for Muslims worldwide, marking the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims around the world fast from dawn until dusk each day. The celebration of Eid Al Fitr is a time of joy, thanksgiving, gift-giving and feasting with family and friends.

Our successful Eid Al Fitr Festival 2022 held at The Commons in Central Christchurch (3,500 attendees) and Eid Al Fitr Festival 2023 held at North Hagley Park also in Central Christchurch (8,000 attendees) were the first outdoor, public celebrations of the Eid Al Fitr holiday in Christchurch to date.

Muslim community events have been held annually since 2018 through the incredible work of NZ Eid Day - Christchurch, a local team of volunteers under NZ Eid Day, which is a national charitable organisation catering for the Muslim Communities in Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Christchurch and surrounding regions.

In Christchurch, NZ Eid Day events have been mainly indoor events in venues such as the Air Force Museum and Wolfbrook Arena catering for 2,000 to
3,000 community attendees.

What we are offering for the Eid Al Fitr Festival 2024:

Plenty of children’s entertainment like bouncy castles, amusement park rides, popcorn, candyfloss, animal balloons, NZ Fire department live fire illustration and children’s entertainers will be available.
A wide range of ethnic food vendors, general market stalls (arts, crafts, and ethnic wares) and services such as face painting and henna.
Complimentary traditional tea and dates for all attendees until supplies run out.
Guest speakers like local politicians, Ngāi Tūāhuriri Kaumātua, Muslim community leaders.
Designated praying areas for men and women.
Communal socialising areas for adults.

These events have provided heart-warming and well-received opportunities to share, showcase and preserve the cultural traditions of our Muslim community members, aiding in ensuring that cultural identities and traditions are protected, celebrated, and passed down
to new generations.
