Learn to screen-print using your own ink made from reclaimed and foraged pigments with artist Emma Kitson.
This workshop covers how to reclaim pigments from nature, discarded makeup and old art supplies, how to make “ink” with rice flour paste and various pigments ,and how to make a stencil to screen print onto paper.
You can BYO pigments such as whenua, watercolour, gouache, mica, powder makeup, however they will need to be finely ground enough to pass through the screen.
Don’t miss out – this one will sell out fasts! All levels welcome. Age: 16 +
What to bring:
• Apron, or old clothes they don’t mind getting inky.
• BYO pigments such as whenua, watercolour, gouache, mica, powder makeup.
• Drawings of stencils you’d like to make.
About the tutor:
Emma Kitson is an Artist and Designer who resides in Whanganui a Tara | Wellington. Her whakapapa traces its roots to the small islands off Rakiura Stewart Island. Emma’s print practice is focussed on accessible and nontoxic methods that are easy to use in a home environment. She is a member of Paemanu, Ngai Tahu Contemporary Artists, Toi Whakataa, and PCANZ.
“My work depicts native New Zealand flora and fauna. I am drawn to the many endemic species that are overlooked because they are not fluffy or cute. These “lesser known natives” have become a metaphor for my own bicultural identity
