This workshop is for individuals who are 16 years or older.

Members of the Rainbow community and allies aged 16 years and over are invited to join us for a photography workshop with Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland - based artist Cao Xun, whose work appears in Set Dressing.

Cao’s work circulates around embarrassment, shame, and vulnerability in navigating the social world. Making playful use of adornment to conceal and manipulate the body, Cao’s work dwells within the tensions between pleasure and repulsion, self-effacement and revelation - and opens the possibility of finding transformation within what’s difficult to live with.

In an open and non-judgemental space, we invite you to experiment with the artist to generate images. Working in groups or pairs, participants will be invited to explore the body as a sculptural medium - through posing, performance, and interaction.

What to expect:
- After getting to know each other, Cao Xun will introduce his practice and creative process.
- Then, participants will be invited to try on different items of clothing, and perform simple actions - such as a forward roll - to experiment with capturing posed and uncontrolled movement.
- Participants are welcome to pose, photograph, or both.
- Each instruction will be an invitation, and participants are welcome to decline any offering.
- Photographs taken by participants on their devices will remain the property of those individuals.
