Ill Riot is the new electronic music collab of Pōneke artists Kirsten Te Rito (Rongomaiwahine, Rongowhakaata, Ngāti Kahungunu) and James “illkeys” Illingworth. Partners in life and music they have been merging their creative energies together for many years co-producing and releasing three reo Māori albums under Kirstens’ name.

Ill Riot combines their love of dance music in a web of intricately crafted beats, synth, vocals and nature samples recorded during the first lockdown on their daily walks.

Decolonisation, relationships and Māori mythology all feature in their quirky, eclectic, electro, club inspired music.

Joining them for their first live outing showcasing their new tunes is Ensai August on percussion. Ensai brings the groove - and a magnitude of energy and stage presence!

Also come along for their lunchtime "Artist Talks" session with host Isobel Walker from 12pm-1pm at the music stage at the Performance Arcade - situated on the Wellington waterfront on the ocean side of Te Papa Tongarewa.
