India Meets Ireland tours New Zealand in February 2024 with Arts on Tour NZ and is a unique fusion of Indian classical music with contemporary and traditional Irish music. This joyful collaboration will feature Indian ragas with tabla master Basant Madhur and his daughter Sargam, and music from the Irish tradition with internationally acclaimed musician Jon Sanders and his daughter Jenny Os.

The show will be in two halves with a format for each which showcases either Indian or Irish music and then blends into a fusion of rhythm and melody.

Both the Indian and Irish cultures share a tradition of families making music together and it is a thrill to both Basant and Jon to be taking part in this Arts on Tour NZ national tour with their daughters.

Basant Madhur and his daughter Sargam play tablas and sitars in the North Indian style and come from a renowned musical family that established NZ’s premier Indian music school in Blockhouse Bay, Auckland in 2006, teaching over 500 students to date.

Jon Sanders and his daughter Jenny herald from Dingle, co Kerry, Ireland and will be using bouzouki, guitar, and vocals to blend the flavours of music and song from the wild Irish west coast with contemporary compositions in a unique way.

India Meets Ireland showcases the colourful contrasts and musical magic created by these two cultures through their ragas and reels and reveals that there is more than a little common ground between them!
