Gain an insight into colour theory, patternmaking, and the ancient craft of silk-screen printing with Jessie Kanji.

Using eco-friendly water based PERMASET® inks, you’ll acquire the expertise to blend a wide array of hues, learning about complimentary colours. A selection of pre-exposed screens will be available for you to print using your chosen colour palette. You’ll explore the intricate process of layering patterns, to produce unique original prints on textiles.

Jessie will guide you through applying the ink to the screen, pulling a squeegee, and heat fixing the ink to the fabric to ensure the permanence of the ink, resulting in long-lasting, wearable art.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll have several items of colourful clothing and textiles to take away with you.

This fun workshop is suitable for beginners and is likely to sell out fast. There are only 12 spaces so book now! Age: 16 +

What to bring:
• A selection of fabric to print on, such as t-shirts, scarves, totes and cushion covers. Any fabric with a smooth texture is suitable. T-shirts can be purchased from the tutor at additional cost
• Clothes you don’t mind getting a bit inky.
• All other materials provided.

About the tutor:
Jessie Kanji is a multi-disciplinary artist and art educator based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Patterns from her inner world create the lens by which she sees the world. Informed by her background in medical science, specialisation in print and her experiences with the cultures of Warli, Huichol, and Latin-American people, her art searches for the balance between order and chaos.

Jessie uses ink as a methodology of accessing colour, pattern, memory and meaning. In the amber-like qualities of ink, her work seeks to evoke the concept of rasa - a state of complete absorption and emotional resonance.
