This New block of morning classes is the best way for beginners to get into jewellery making in a lively, warm and friendly environment. It starts on Wed 1 May and runs for 8 weeks until Wed 19 June, 10am - 12.30pm.
This class is mixed level, allowing beginners to work alongside advanced students.
Beginners start with basic ring making in copper or brass, students will learn measuring, texturing, shaping, cutting and soldering.
Then we move on to making a practice ring set with a cabochon stone (cabochon means it has a flat bottom and a smooth domed top).
Once your first setting is completed you can move to working in silver and produce another stone set ring with more interesting design elements.
Level 2 students explore chainmaking as a way to develop their fine soldering skills. Their silver project can be a pendant on a handmade chain or a piece of their own design.
Level 3 and above students are encouraged to work on their design skills and try new and challenging techniques.
Included in the class fee are copper and brass for practising on, up to 8 grams of sterling silver, an extra $8 for stones and fine silver and all consumables such as sandpaper, solder and chemicals. Extra metals and materials are available for purchase in the studio.
