Join me (MB) for A free virtual art class using a few basic art supplies (drawing supplies, colouring pencils, and pen) to draw and illustrate a botanical wreath featuring vibrant red poppies with optional hand lettering.

You will need paper, a pencil, something round to trace around (e.g a saucer or roll of tape), a sharpener, eraser, colouring pencils, and a black pen.

This is a 1.5 hour session open to anyone but aimed at adults and uses really minimal art supplies that many of us will have at home.
We will be meeting to go live at 2pm on Saturday 20th April.

Let me know if you have any questions - you can join via the linked Facebook event.

Why Poppies?
The red poppy has become a symbol of war remembrance throughout the world. People in many countries wear the poppy to remember those who died in war or are serving in the armed forces.

In NZ, red poppies are commonly worn on ANZAC Day on April 25th each year and this day means a lot of things for a lot of people - for me it is a time to think about the human cost of war. I can’t imagine being confronted by the horrors of war and there are so many people right now dealing with unspeakable loss and conflict.

May peace prevail on earth.

May peace prevail in everywhere currently seeing conflict; in Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Yeme, Western Sahara, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Russia, Crimea, and Ukraine.

May children have safety, warmth, food, and education.

May hospitals be safe places where violence never touches.

May governments make every effort to stop violence, killing, and death.

May there be a ceasefire and may it never resume.

Those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it - lest we forget.
