This concert features two great sextets for clarinet, French horn, piano, and strings. This is
chamber music with orchestral scope; riveting from the opening notes with Dohnányi’s rich and exhilarating Sextet, followed by what is considered Penderecki’s finest chamber music achievement. These two majestic works allow the six performers to showcase their virtuosic brilliance and musicality.
Arna Morton (violin), Alex Morton (French horn) and Liam Wooding (piano) established Morton Trio in 2017. The trio is committed to discovering and performing lesser‑known works from the genre, as well as expanding the horn trio repertoire through new commissions and arrangements. Morton Trio’s original members are joined by colleagues from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, David McGregor (clarinet), Sharon Baylis (viola), and Jeremy Garside (cello).
Ernő Dohnányi, Sextet, Op 37 (1935)
Krzysztof Penderecki, Sextet (2000)
This concert is presented in partnership with Chamber Music New Zealand.
