Organist David Dobson

Wellington organist, David Dobson will present two lunchtime concerts in the Whanganui area in early April.

The first is on Wednesday 3rd April at Christ Church, Whanganui, at 12.15 pm with the second at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Waverley, at the same time the following day, Thursday 4th April.

His Christ Church concert will include works by Johann Walther (a contemporary and cousin of J.S.Bach) a work by Cesar Franck as well a setting of Psalm 23 by Rowley.

The Waverley concert contains a number of works from the Christ Church concert which David says will offer significant and interesting aural differences when compared to the much larger Christ Church organ.

“This is the fifth consequtive year I have presented programmes for the delightful audiences of Whanganui and Waverley,” he says. “I enjoy exploring the sounds of the various organs I play.”

For many years David has contributed to the liturgical music at the Catholic Parish of Assisi, Johnsonville while regularly playing for services at the First Church of Christ Scientist, Wellington city.

“Sharing a love of music and participating in warm ecumenical relationships has always been part of my life,” he says.

He has presented many organ recitals throughout the lower North Island with these two being the 56th and 57th overall.

“I extend a warm welcome to all to attend one or both of these concerts to support the good work of those who care for these respective organs, he says.

Entry to the concerts is free, but a Koha towards organ maintenance would be most appreciated.
