Ven. Tenzin Tsapel is an Australian nun Tenzin Tsapel first met our FPMT main lamas, Lama Yeshe and Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche on their 1979 Australian tour. Buddhism made perfect sense to her and two years later after attending Lama Yeshe’s Enlightened Experience Celebration in India it changed her direction in life. Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave her permission to ordain and the opportunity came in early 1985 to ordain with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, in the holy city of Bodhgaya. Back in Australia Tsapel joined the Chenrezig Nuns Community, managed four building projects and helped establish Chenrezig Institute’s Buddhist Study Program in 1997. A decade later Tsapel became the resident teacher at Chandrakirti Centre for nearly three years. That appointment was followed by a two year solitary retreat, and a move to Mongolia to become resident teacher at The Golden Light Sutra Centre, Darkhan. Tsapel joined Atisha Centre five years ago. Her main project now is managing Machig Labdron Nunnery building project, due begin in 2024.
