Stephen started painting with oils at 14 years old, self taught and painting for enjoyment he left New Zealand for Australia at 18.
After 20 years he returned to Taranaki with two young children. As a single parent his time for painting was limited, apart from for a few exhibitions and the then Museum of Puniho Carving Whare.
Recently discovering acrylics and the commitment of a solo exhibition at Gover St Gallery, Stephen has found his creative focus again and finds inspiration from the the great painters of the past with his own contemporary twist
