A rare opportunity to listen to the versatile child prodigy and disciple of legendary singer Bharat Ratna Late Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, for the first time in New Zealand, PT. AANAND BHATE brought to you by Migrant Heritage Charitable Trust Inc. Anand Bhate is one of the most promising artistes in the new generation of the great Kirana tradition. He started his musical journey in the childhood and since then he has continued to present different exponents of Hindustani Classical Music. Anand was a gifted child prodigy from a family that had a background in classical music as well as Marathi drama. His great-grandfather, called famously as Bhatebua, was known for his prowess in rendering the ‘Thumari’ and ‘Natyasangeet’. Anand’s father has been a devoted fan of Balgandharva, the legendary singer-actor of the Marathi stage during the first half of the last century. He gave his first television performance in 1981, at the age of 10, and became a young star almost overnight.

Connoisseurs were spellbound by Anand’s luminous rendering of Balgandharva’s gayaki and affectionately conferred on him the ‘title’ Anand Gandharva. In the ensuing few years Anand had many successes. He gave natyasangeet performances on All India Radio as well on Mumbai Doordarshan and many public performances at various places in Maharashtra. He published his first Natyasangeet cassette in 1983. He has performed many times at the prestigious Sawai Gandharva Music Festival at Pune including recent performance in 2010. Has toured extensively globally and is now visiting the land of the white cloud for the first time. A Rare previlege not to be missed.

Accompanying him will be Shri Anant Joshi on Harmonium. Anant Joshi began musical training from father Pt. Achyut Joshi at the tender age 10 and he has committed excellence in performance by valuable guidance from Pt. Vishwanath Kanhere. He has completed a degree of SANGEET ALANKAR in harmonium from AKHIL BHARATIYA GANDHARV MAHAVIDYALAY MANDAL, MIRAJ. He started his career by achieving top ranking almost in all instrumental competitions in Mumbai and Maharashtra and inter collegiate competition of Mumbai university in 1995 and 1996. Anant Joshi has given outstanding solo performances in major cities like Mumbai Nashik, Pune, Belgaon, Akola, Nagpur, Sangli, Murud Janjira, including Jugalbandis with instrument like Flute, Sitar, Violin, etc. He was also invited to participate in HARMONIUM SAMMELAN for performance at Mumbai, Belgaum, Ratnagiri.
For international concerts, Anant Joshi has accompanied recognized artists like Pt. Prabhakar Karekar to USA, Shrutitai Sadolikar to Switzerland and almost in 10 contries with so many artists.

Also present will be Sanjay Dixit on Tabla. Based in Wellington Sanjay has accompanied many local and visiting musicians including the legendary vocalists - Vid. Aarti Anklikar-Tikekar, Pt Milind Chittal, to name a few!
