Te Aro Mahana Playground Opening

Double the fun: revamped and ready to play!

This Children’s Day, Wellington City Council is excited to present two free, whānau-friendly events to celebrate the opening of Te Aro Mahana - the exciting new playspace at Frank Kitts Park, and the reopening of the Botanic Garden ki Paekākā play area.

Head to the waterfront to try out the Te Aro Mahana play area and explore the new Whetuu Maarama waka. Bring your friends and whānau and enjoy an exciting line-up of tamariki-friendly activities and kai.

The celebrations will feature a bike obstacle course, soccer skills, and kayaking, plus food, music, and performances for kids. Capital E are also holding a special event at Queens Wharf, and inside Nōku te Ao Capital E.

Take advantage of free cable car rides all day for tamariki aged 5-15 years old, and head up to the celebrations at the Botanic Garden ki Paekākā to enjoy giant bubbles and chalk art. Once you've worked up an appetite, take advantage of 2-for-1 kids pizza at the Cable Car Eatery or a free kids menu item with the purchase of a main menu item at Picnic Cafe.
