The Final Passage, directed by Pascal Magontier, is an immersive fly-through of the famous Chauvet-Pont d'Arc cave in southern France, which contains some of the earliest European cave art and records first-hand human experience of long-extinct animals.

Based on 3D digital data captured in the cave, which is now inaccessible to the public, the film invites the viewer to follow an uninterrupted path through the site, as if you were wandering alone through it. Watch as the cave's walls emerge from darkness, and lions, mammoths, rhinoceroses and bears painted 36,000 years ago come into view.

Screening for the first time in New Zealand as part of Archaeology Week, The Final Passage is an incredible example of modern archaeological storytelling and a fascinating insight into humanity's creative past.
