Bookings are now open for our 2024 production of Il Re Pastore or The Shepherd King, by Mozart, on March 1, 2 & 3 at 5pm. Acoustically sung, fully staged and with The Days Bay Opera Orchestra conducted by Mark Carter. This early Mozart opera will be performed with an English edition prepared by Amanda Holden. The opera is full of highly florid singing and will star Rebecca Ryan, a great classical singer who will be singing the role of Amyntas and it will be sheer heaven to hear her sing "L'Amero", the most famous Mozart aria with violin obligato as Amyntas swears his fidelity to the shepherdess Elisa, sung by Auckland coloratura soprano, Elizabeth Mandeno.

The magnificent role of Alexander the Great will be sung by a suitably magnificent tenor: Ridge Ponini. The roles of Agenor, Alexander's assistant and Tamiris (a princess on the run) will be sung by two young Wellington singers: tenor Bayley Goldstone and soprano Sinead Louise Keane.
The opera tells the story of the question of whether true love is more important than power and glory. Each character must choose their answer so that the opera can come to a happy ending.
Book now so as not to miss Days Bay Opera's 14th opera production, famous for their intimate and close up productions, heard with the back drop of beech forest and bird song.

The gates open at 4pm, you are greeted by a complimentary glass of Seresin wine, the opera starts at 5pm on venue provided seating and then between Acts1 & 2 there is an hour long interval for you to have your picnic ( Glyndebourne Style) on the other lawns in this famous Days Bay Garden. At 7pm Act 2 begins and the opera will end just after 8pm each evening. This is Wellington's "Secret Garden Opera"!
