Wallace Shield 5km Cross Country Series Race 1

Waimea Harriers Wallace Shield Cross Country Series.

Join us at Rabbit Island for the first of a fun three-event, cross-country series with three distances:

Adult & high school runners: 5k (3 laps)
Walkers: 3.4k (2 laps)
Intermediate/Primary/Kindy Runners: Choice of 1.7k (1 lap) or 2 or 3 laps.

Points are awarded at each event and members of Waimea Harriers compete for the coveted Wallace Shield. These are free events and everyone and all abilities are welcome.

This first event in the series is "Guess your time" - run without watches & phones.

Moturoa/Rabbit Island, 6 April 2023. Meet at the “Old Domain” picnic area.

Registration is from 1.45pm. Give your estimated time for running 1.7km, 3.4km or 5km or walking 3.4km at registration.

Race briefing 2.20pm. Race start 2.30pm.

The winner is the person closest to their estimated time, e.g. the person closest gets 1 point, next closest 2 points etc. After the 19th closest, everyone is given 20 points. The aim is to get the least number of points as possible over the three races in the series.

Everyone starts together at 2:30pm, running along the beach from the ‘Old Domain’ towards Tāhunanui. This is quite a spectacle to see and to be a part of!

This is also Waimea Harriers Winter Season Opening Day, with a free BBQ to follow the race. Everyone is welcome - you do not need to be a club member. Stay after the race and meet fellow runners and walkers.

The 2024 Wallace Shield Series is on the following Saturdays - 6 April, 20 April and 4 May
