Like any other writer, a poet draws inspiration from the world around them. Usually, this inspiration comes from their lived experience or imagination but occasionally another's writing will move them to create art in response. Writing 'after' other poets, musicians or authors is not an uncommon practice, but what if you turn that inspiration inward and seek to create new poetry from your own writing?
Writing from My Future turns inwards in this way, building on a whakapapa of poetry created for Spoiled Fruit: Queer Poetry from Aotearoa (@aporopress, 2023). In this panel, led by Laura Vincent (@hungryandfrozen) and featuring Ngaio Simmons (@hipstafawk) and Ivy Lyden-Hancy (@tekaraipitures.kupu), the three contributors will discuss writing 'after' their own work and share new poems.
Brought to you by Auckland Central City Library and bad apple, this free event will be held at the Whare Wānanga, Level 2, Central City Library, at 11am on Sunday 4 February.
