The Spice Girls may be making a comeback but there's an early chance for New Zealand to sample the delights of the Beckham entourage when it roars onto the Wellington football pitch.
David Beckham has already turned heads across the Tasman even though his team the LA Galaxy were beaten by Sydney FC 5-3. However, he did indeed Bend it Like himself when he curled one across the wall and into the goal, delighting over 80,000 fans.
And you can bet Beckham-mania will hit Wellington for the showing of the superstar that is David when he makes his appearance for his squad the LA Galaxy.
It's been a long time coming with David Beckham making an appearance in New Zealand for his team - and you can bet the majority of people wouldn't be able to name any other members of the LA Galaxy.
It's quite a coup for Wellington to have scored the appearance - and if his performance against Sydney FC earlier this week is anything to go by, it could be another blistering game. While Sydney FC beat the LA Galaxy, the 80,000 strong crowd was more than happy to see that David played the full game. However, it was not without worries as David was injured early on but he played on despite that.
Football has never had a massive presence on the New Zealand scene but that looks set to change with the profile and interest in this game - so much so, that even TVNZ has decided to screen the game live on TV. Which is great news for those of us who can't get to the game - or are armchair supporters!
Eventfinder reckons if you like this event, you'll be sure to love the Michael Hill NZ Open which takes place in Arrowtown . . . or possibly even the third in the Stroke and Stride series.
