Stellar punk acts line up for New Zealand's 'Punk It Up V' 2020

New Zealand's ultimate music extravaganza 'Punk It Up V' has lined up its stellar cast of heavy-hitters for 2020. The event is set to kick-off NZ Music Month with a two-night concert at Auckland's The Bluestone Room (fka Zwines)—the place where NZ punk was born.

Leading the Friday night bill will be punk maestros The Bludgers, indie-rock band The Barbs, and perennial crowd favourites Proud Scum. Joining them are noise merchants Dick Move and anarcho-punk troupe The Instigators—two of DnB's luminaries who are geared up to showcase some "in your face" shenanigans onstage.

Meanwhile, the Saturday set will continue to feature the heavyweight pack, with performances from hard-rock heroes The Bombers, punk-rock champions Contenders, the well-known yee-haa yippe-aye-yay rockers The Johnnys, and homegrown punk quartet No Tag.

Closing both nights will be BankRobbers—the all-star covers band with X-Features/Fetus Productions musical guru Jed Town, No Tag's Andrew Boak, The Bombers' Shamus O'Brien, and X-Features drummer Chris King. With their acclaimed live performances, they'll be making you pogo the night away with some well-known covers from both New Zealand and overseas punk bands. Performing alongside them are a plethora of guests from the Kiwi punk scene including Sonya Waters and Ed Geddes (The Instigators), Nick Hansen (Spelling Mistakes), Dean Martelli and Chris Orange (Terrorways/X-Features/Rebel Truce)—with Dean playing his Burns Flyte guitar that graced the cover of the essential album "AK79".

Completing the first round lineup are a posse of incredible DJs Dubhead, Miss Dom, Phil A, R.G. Bargy, Wastemaster, Johnny & The Dambusters and many more. They'll be playing everything from ska punk to reggae and anything else they want to, in-between the bands.

With more exciting acts yet to be announced, you can only expect nothing but rabble-rousing feasts this May, so grab your tickets quick!
